The World Backgammon Tour all set to happen
As the world's first ever large scale million dollar backgammon tournament is set to happen from January 21 to January 25, 2006, the organizers, reveal that much is in store for backgammon enthusiasts. The grand event is being organized by Player International Ltd, a London based company with branches in Los Angeles, Copenhagen, Hong Kong and Paris.
On November 23, 006, the organizers announced bigger plans for a world backgammon tournament and the creation of an international backgammon federation. These announcements were made by the spokespersons of Player International at the Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas. As per officials, the world backgammon tour would have under it a series of events spread in different parts of the world. There would be three significant events that would be held in 2007 in parts of Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The prize money would be huge and would amount to $500,000 and above to the winners. The final event would offer a spectacular finish and would take place in London. The show would also be broadcast on television and currently finalizations of the TV rights are under progress. Officials also stated that through these efforts they are trying to bring forth the biggest tournament ever in the history of backgammon. The second of the ambitious plans involves the unveiling of a new Backgammon Federation. This would form the umbrela organization for backgammon across the world. A leading figure would be elected as the President of the organizat.ion.
