888 Holdings, an online gaming company has shifted its business focus outside the US and has benefited from the process. After the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed in October 2006, many gaming companies were forced to either shut shop or shift their business focus elsewhere. 888 Holdings decided on the latter, and in this regard launched a range of new services and entered into agreements with various companies. As a result, the pre tax profits of the company were seen to rise by 35% in 2006 as compared to 2005. It shifted focus to non US operations and also launched its version of backgammon, which is experiencing roaring success.
