Oldest set of backgammon

A new website created by Available Light Productions in Bristol now brings forth various interesting artifacts that also includes the world's oldest backgammon set. Known as Object Detectives, this website draws inspiration from the unique artifacts that have been on display in museums across the South West. The site is a comprehensive and well detailed and is the result of the efforts of a year-long collaboration between schools, students, digital experts, museums and heritage based sites. Archaeologists in Iran state that the oldest set of backgammon was found in the ruins of what was Burnt City in Sistan-Baluchestan province. The set, which was discovered, comprised of 60 pieces as compared to current day backgammon that has 30 pieces only. The board, which was unearthed, was seen to be made of ebony and was rectangular in shape. The remains of the civilization that have been unearthed showcase it to be 5000 years old, proving once again that backgammon has a long history to it.
