GammonEmpire Goes to Java

GammonEmpire, one of the largest online backgammon portals online, which is currently holding over 1,200,000 registered players, as well as over 11,000 players online in one of the biggest online backgammon room.

Currently, as far as I know, this is the only site to launch a Java applet for playing backgammon online. The Java applet is pretty much identical to the online backgammon software you can download from the main site. This applet supports both playing backgammon for real money and playing backgammon online for virtual money, similar to what they currently have on their downloadable backgammon software.

GammonEmpire at first had an initial deposit of $20, which was then reduced to $5, and now stands at $1 for people who want to play backgammon online for real money without spending too much money on an initial deposit.  Another offer from GammonEmpire is free online backgammon tutorials for players who deposit money into the system. I guess they finally realized that the best way to get players to join in is to let them bet what ever amount they want rather then setting threshold on how much should be deposited, as well as giving them some free tutorials, makes sense no?
