Backgammon comes home through the small screen
One of the world's oldest games, backgammon, is now seeing a comeback into homes through the small screen. As many online gaming enthusiasts now turn to backgammon rather than poker, to gamble money online and for entertainment, backgammon has received a recognition boost. The time is all the more right for backgammon blossoming as the World Series of Backgammon are about to be aired on Eurosport in 37 countries. Starting from November 6, 2006 up to eight weeks, a pan European TV audience will benefit from match-play backgammon. This will be aired from 22.15 in the UK and 23.15 CET. Players from over 30 nationalities had come together in the Riviera Cup and teams from over 21 countries had played in the Nations' Cup. Experts state that both these events were filmed at the Groupe Partouche Palm Beach Casino, Canneson the French Riviera.
TV steps up to welcome backgammon
Statistics thus reveal that the small screen is geared for more action on the backgammon front now. TV is the next fertile medium for the next major step of backgammon as audiences today are geared towards the game and are seeking such backgammon action. The only important thing now said a WSOBG spokesperson is to get the TV concept right for capturing the world series of backgammon events, an aspect that the team has worked very hard to achieve. The event would be sponsored by PartyGammon.com, hosted by Canadian Kara Scott with commentary by leading UK player John Clark. Sports writer Will Cockerell and American player Carter Mattig will also participate in presenting the event.
