Backgammon marks new year celebrations

Norouz marks the new year for Iranians and Persians and is a festival that is celebrated for two weeks. This festival heralds the beginning of spring and all Iranians across the world celebrate the event with much enthusiasm. Iranian Americans from the Bay Area Iranian American organizations and people from the neighborhood will also celebrate the event in a special manner. The fourth annual Norouz spring festival will not just include a large spread of delicious Persian food, cultural shows, music and DJ but will also include free games of backgammon. Backgammon tournaments will mark the celebrations of the new year and a turnover of approximately 1500 people is expected at the event which will be conducted on March 31, 2007 and April 1, 2007. Venue is the Vasona Lake County Park of Los Gatos. Funds raised at the event will go towards building an Iranian American community center for those living in the Peninsula and South Bay regions.
