Board-less backgammon to prevent boredom in hospitals

With new technologies making all things possible, fun games like backgammon are soon set to become real in serious settings like hospitals also. A new computer has been designed for hospital purposes, and this piece comprises of Internet, television, video, radio and telephone facilities, all by the bedside. While the good side is that patients and caregivers can stay connected to the entire world from the confines of their hospital room, the flipside is that the patient may simply undergo more strain and stress with these gadgets. However the system is still being developed and has received both negative and positive feedbacks. Named as the Hospicom by the NHS, this bedside Windows XP computer is the first experiment of its kind. The computer comes with various features and rates for usage depend on what the users are using. For example while television access costs £3 for 24 hours, playing games like backgammon and solitaire only costs 20p per hour of play. The system also comes equipped with four radio stations where music is relayed free of charge. However this new product is still in the development stage and has to be approved by hospital authorities, patients and their families alike.
