Acey Deucy: more than a backgammon variant

Save This Page

Acey-Deucy, a popular variant of backgammon, is a game which has been linked to a sailor's life for a long time now. This game has been a favorite pastime for many from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Merchant Marine since times as old as the World War I. This form of backgammon uses the same board and the same number of pieces as backgammon. However Acey-Deucy features a different starting position and opening play. Rules for the endgame and usage of the doubling cube are different too. Besides being a popular game, this term also refers to first class petty officers (aceys) and second class petty officers (deuceys). At the Great Lakes Naval Station, the term features in the Acey Deucey Association. This currently represents an organization for noncommissioned officers at the Personnel Support Activity Detachment. The group members participate in small town events like helping people and bringing everyone together.
