World backgammon championship 2007 extravaganza

The 2007 backgammon world championship held in July in Monte Carlo was won by Jorge Pan from Argentina. He defeated Alvaro Savio of Brazil in a wonderful match of wits. The final match took less than four hours to complete and scores stood at 26- 23 in the match of 25 points. At a point when the match score was 2 away, 3 away from Savio, he reached a position of advantage and cubed. However the match commentator stated that the cube was incorrect due to the score. Amidst much excitement Jorge Pan was crowned the World backgammon Champion 2007.  All in all, the World backgammon championship in Monte Carlo did not show as much attendance for the tournament as last time. This was mainly because of dates that conflicted with the World Series of Poker, held in Las Vegas.
