Join the fun loving band of backgammon and pool enthusiasts in New Zealand. The Kaponga Backgammon Club offers an excellent getaway for all backgammon enthusiasts either living in New Zealand or visiting the neighborhood. Members of the club meet regularly for backgammon tournaments or social backgammon matches played for fun. Situated in Central Taranaki, this club lives up the tradition of always providing live background music while backgammon games are in progress. The club regularly organizes both small scale and large scale tournaments. The annual Taranaki tournament is New Zealand's only annual backgammon event held at a large scale. The club also conducts weekend backgammon tournaments for all backgammon players interested in the game. Players from all levels of expertise are welcome to participate. The online environment allows interested players to register through the Internet. This volunteer run club began operations in 1985 when a group of backgammon enthusiasts cum friends started organizing backgammon matches among themselves. Slowly the interest and the size of the club grew and by March '87, 5 of the regular players bought 4 adjoining shops in Kaponga, Taranaki. Soon the club had an address and from there it grew on its own.
