The Manchester and District backgammon club has been operational since 1999 when it was established by Kevin Stebbing. Today it hosts backgammon matches regularly on every Tuesday of the month. Players meet up at 7:00 PM sharp and gaming commences usually at 7:30pm. Tournament formats change as per the day. The first Tuesday is usually reserved for 5 point knockout matches, the second Tuesday for Swiss type backgammon while the third Tuesday is for 3 out of 3, 8 player brackets of 5 point, then 3 point then 1 point matches. The format varies again for the fourth and fifth Tuesday of the month. Money is not at stake here, as these meetings are more sociable in nature. Players accumulate points at these weekly tourneys which finally count for the Club Championship trophy. All standards of players are welcome to participate. The play usually comprises of knockout backgammon and tric trac tournos. Besides this four rounds of three point matches of backgammon are also conducted. Entry and participation in the backgammon tourneys is free for all those who are interested. However those interested can participate in an optional £3 pool. Guests and beginners are welcome to the club and can contact Rodney for more details.
