World Online Backgammon Championship events
There have been two events run in the past which used the title of “World Online Backgammon Championship.” Neither of these is sanctioned in any way by any recognized backgammon organization. One of them was run for several years by a player whose primary “home” was the MSN Gaming Zone. It was a large tournament with fairly long matches and drew a decent field, but only a tiny percentage (if any) of the world’s strongest players competed. Currently, the server TrueMoneyGames runs an event they call the World Online Backgammon Championship. This is just a medium-stakes money tournament with a $100 entry fee and some satellite qualifiers, and matches scaled from 3 to 9 points. The winner of this event is given, as part of their prize, travel expense and entry fee for the World Backgammon Championship, as part of TMG’s sponsorship of the live World Backgammon Championship.
