Venue and Time of the World Championship
There were two events called the World Backgammon Championship held in the late 1970’s, but the first World Backgammon Championship as we know it now was held in 1979. The tournament has been at the Fairmont luxury resort, Monte Carlo, from 1979 to the present. This is an upscale five star hotel that offers restaurants, casino, a rooftop pool and a breathtaking view of Monte Carlo. Formerly known as the Grand Hotel, the Fairmont has set various regulations in place for its residents. Improper dressing is not allowed and neither are children and pets allowed inside. The championship usually lasts for about a week, and includes side events and a high-stakes jackpot event in addition to the World Championship event itself.
