Registration to the Backgammon Event

The Monte Carlo World Backgammon Championship is open to players by invitation only. For players or social guests, the registration fee for the tournament is 220 Euro. This includes a welcome cocktail party, awards ceremony and the gala dinner. Players need to pay an entry fee of 880 Euro for the championship flight, 380 Euro for the intermediate flight and 200 Euro for beginners’ flight. As with most backgammon tournaments, the tournament committee may bar players from competing or attending, and also to refuse participation in the beginners or intermediate flights to players whose skill merits them playing in a higher division. It is less common, however, for players to play below their skill level in this tournament than in others. Travel and accommodations for the tournament are expensive, and most people with any chance at all to win the open division will enter it, hoping for a run of lucky dice to propel them to the prestigious title of World Backgammon Champion. While most of the winners have been strong players, some very weak players have had the run of luck to win the title. Also, due to the location and expense, many strong players do not attend.

It is important to check the prices before registering, as they may change. Also, it is important to keep in mind that personal checks are not accepted for making payments.
